A must during the mild season is the excursion toIsola di Cabrera (Cabrera Island), splendid natural park a few miles from the coast of Cap de ses Salines.
The surroundings of Son Mercadal are rich with history and culture, with the church of Nuestra Señora de la Consolación, known as the Catedral del Pla, the second tallest church after the cathedral of Palma; the Monastero di Montesion (Montesion Monastery)where one of the most beautiful views of Mallorca may be enjoyed; the church of San Bartolomé (XVI century) at Montuïri, the church of San Miquel (XVII century) at Felanitx; the monastery of Cura at Llucmajor. Delightful are the little markets of the towns that offer antique objects, handicrafts and typical products, beginning from the one in Porreres, close to Son Mercadal, to continue with the ones of Sineu, Felanitx and Consell.
For lovers of outings on a horse or on a bicycle, there are different paths that leave from the farmstead that lead towards the countryside for wonderful outings amongst vines, almond, carob and oak trees and wheat fields, studded with characteristic wind-mills. Golf players have a wide selection of numerous courses in Mallorca, the closest ones to the hotel are those of Llucmajor and Cala Dor.
How to reach the farmstead of Son Mercadal of Porreres in Mallorca
Son Mercadal is located 5 kilometres from Porrereson the hills of Mallorca, the biggest of the Balearic Islands off Barcelona. You may arrive by plane from all major European airports or with a domestic flight from Spain’s airports, or by ship, from the Spanish ports of Barcelona, Valencia and Denia.
Whether you come by plane or by ship, once you arrive at Mallorca, it is best to rent a car to reach thefarmstead Son Mercadal and to visit the entire island in absolute comfort and tranquillity.
The airport Son Sant Joan and the passenger port of Palma de Mallorca are respectively about 35 and 45 kilometres from Son Mercadal. From the airport or from the port follow the directions for Santanyí. Once you arrive at Campos turn left towards Porreres. Before reaching Porreres, when you see the Monastery of Montesion on your left, at the height of the Km. 3, turn right towards the indications “Son Mercadal Finca de agroturismo" sul Camì de Son Pau. One more kilometre and a half and you’re at Son Mercadal.
