Mallorca is the biggest of the Balearic Islands. It is famous for its beaches, pearls, golf courses and the summers of vips and kings.
The mild climate all year makes it a very pleasant destination in any season for a stay in the hotels of Mallorca characterised by the sea, by the outings, by golf and by rural tourism.
Mallorca’s coastline is filled with a series of beaches long and very white especially in the eastern part of the island, lapped by crystal clear waters with coves and bays of extraordinary beauty towards the northern and western part, where the coastline drops into the sea with a breathtaking sheer fall (many beaches are awarded with the European Bandiera Blu or Blue Flag). Palma is the capital, modern and mundane, a favourite destination for the international jet set, filled with many visitors during the summer and peaceful during the rest of the year.
Inside Mallorca everything is beautiful. The landscape varies from the flat expanse of land and from the salt pans of the east, to the sweet hills of the central area and climbs towards a mountain range that reaches 1500 metres towards the northern and western part. Parks and natural reservations protect places and nature. Everywhere there are little towns, castles and monasteries that keep the authentic traditions of Mallorca’s handicrafts alive (lace work, ceramics, leather, ect) and transform fruit and other products taken from the land into delicious delights (oil, wines, marmalades, ect).
Son Mercadal, hotel and farmstead, is located in the pleasant hills east of Mallorca, five kilometres from Porreres, close to Campos and Llucmajor. The location of Son Mercadal is truly one of the most privileged amongst the hotels and farmsteads in Mallorca, ideal for a rural tourism in a ”finca” or farm, for nature walks, for a beach vacation far from the crowds of Palma and to experience the most authentic traditions of rural Mallorca. The beaches are 15 kilometres from the farmstead, the Es Trenc beach is the most famous and widely visited beach whilst the ”calas”, or small bays, are more peaceful and intimate like Cala Santanyì, Cala Llombars, Cala Sa Nau ecc. A must during the mild season is the excursion toIsola di Cabrera (Cabrera Island), splendid natural park a few miles from the coast of Cap de ses Salines.
The surroundings of Son Mercadal are rich with history and culture, with the church of Nuestra Señora de la Consolación, known as the Catedral del Pla, the second tallest church after the cathedral of Palma; the Monastero di Montesion (Montesion Monastery)where one of the most beautiful views of Mallorca may be enjoyed; the church of San Bartolomé (XVI century) at Montuïri, the church of San Miquel (XVII century) at Felanitx; the monastery of Cura at Llucmajor. Delightful are the little markets of the towns that offer antique objects, handicrafts and typical products, beginning from the one in Porreres, close to Son Mercadal, to continue with the ones of Sineu, Felanitx and Consell.
For lovers of outings on a horse or on a bicycle, there are different paths that leave from the farmstead that lead towards the countryside for wonderful outings amongst vines, almond, carob and oak trees and wheat fields, studded with characteristic wind-mills. Golf players have a wide selection of numerous courses in Mallorca, the closest ones to the hotel are those of Llucmajor and Cala Dor.
